Volunteer Opportunities
Pardon us while this page is still under construction
If placing homeless companions into loving permanent homes is the heart of Second Chance, our volunteers are the soul.
Our fostering, pet adoptions and fund raising activities are just a few of the areas that our volunteers participate. With a wide array of opportunities, there is something for almost everyone who would like to make a difference in the lives of homeless companion animals. Do you love animals? Would you like to get involved in the community?
Second Chance is always looking for volunteers. Below are a few examples of what you can do to help us make a difference in the community. If you have any skills you think we can use that are not listed here, please don't hesitate to contact us! To apply as a volunteer, use our online application form or email the volunteer coordinator.

Animal Companionship
Do you love being around animals? Is your heart broken when you see an animal alone in a kennel? Do you wish you could do something about it? You can! Animal Companion volunteers increase our animals' chances for adoption by providing needed support to our foster homes. Volunteers provide additional companionship, socialization, training and grooming of the animals (dogs and cats). Volunteers also help foster homes maintain a clean environment for our animals. Volunteers are needed as Canine Companions, & Cat Companions. No specific skills are required, but prior experience with animals is helpful. Animal Companion volunteers also aid us in our adoption drives at PetSmart in Cumming, Ga. Typically, every other Saturday, we load the Second Chance van up with excellent candidates that are ready for their permanent homes. This is a long day with approximately 3 hours of travel time and 5-6 hours of adoption site time. Animal companions help to set up/take down the x-pens, walk and water the dogs, and assist with questions from prospective adopters.
Foster Homes for Animals
Volunteers provide temporary foster care in their homes. The animals needing fostering are typically newborn, very young animals or animals requiring medical attention. SCAS covers all veterinary costs, we just need you to help the animals through the healing process. Required skills: Knowledge of animal care and experience with animals is preferred. Foster volunteers must possess patience and compassion and must care for our animals in a responsible manner. Prospective foster homes will be inspected for suitability. Foster homes are the cornerstone of Second Chance. Unfortunately we can never have enough foster homes. Can you open your heart and home, even on a sporadic basis, to aid us in finding permanent loving homes for these homeless companions?
Humane Educators
Do you envision a community where every companion animal will have a caring home? If so, help make this a reality by volunteering in our Education program. . Volunteers are needed to assist with our Education programs. If you are interested, you should be comfortable with public speaking and enjoy working with people of all ages. Experience as an educator, public speaking, or outreach are beneficial.
Special Events
SCAS is funded solely by private donations and fundraising activities. In order to provide the best possible care to the animals, we participate in numerous fundraising and community events every month. Volunteers make this possible. We are always in need of volunteers who understand that providing quality care for animals goes beyond the one-on-one interactions. It includes helping to raise money to go towards improving their kennels, ensuring proper medical care, and making sure our community is educated about responsible pet ownership. Event volunteers assist in these efforts by selling tickets, distributing flyers, staffing special events, and helping to organize events. If you are interested in this opportunity, you should enjoy working and networking with people. Creativity and/or fundraising experience are a plus.
